Northshore Loft

Place: Prince Edward Island
Program: Architecture/Residential
Year: 2020
Photography: Doublespace Photography

A familiar site across Prince Edward Island’s countryside is that of traditional rural outbuildings. Often employing simple footprints and gable roofs, their aged forms are unassumingly aligned with many modern design ideals. Northshore Loft is a contemporary interpretation of an island mainstay.

Tucked amongst towering Spruces and lush vegetation, Northshore Loft’s approach is discreet. Minimal cedar canopies signify the homes entrances with warmth, providing contrast against black steel cladding.

Featuring a double-height, open-concept space for living, dining, and cooking, the home makes efficient use of its small footprint. Polished concrete floors carry through the spaces while tall corner windows provide idyllic views of surrounding fields and woodlands to both the main level and the loft master suite.
